About the app

The myGov Code Generator app is designed to generate codes that can be used when signing in to a myGov account at my.gov.au. It is important to note that the app itself cannot be used to sign in to a myGov account.

Instead of relying on SMS codes or secret questions, users can utilize the codes generated by this app for authentication purposes.

Setting up the app

Once you have downloaded the app, you will need to complete the setup process on your device. After setup is completed, the app will begin generating codes for you.

During the setup process, you will be prompted to:

• Read and accept the Terms of Use
• Set up SMS codes as a backup sign-in method (if you currently use secret questions)
• Replace your myGov sign-in method with the code generated by this app (instead of SMS codes or secret questions)
• Automatically register your device for use with the app in your myGov account sign-in settings

Using the app

Once you have successfully set up the app on your device, follow these steps:

1. Go to my.gov.au
2. Sign in to myGov using your username and password
3. Open the app and enter the 6-digit code generated by the app

Uninstalling the app or getting a new device

If you uninstall the app from your device or switch to a new device, there is a risk of losing access to your myGov account. To prevent this from happening, you must adjust your myGov account sign-in settings accordingly.

If you lose your device

In the event that your device with the app installed is lost, you can still access your myGov account using your sign-in backup method. However, it will be necessary to modify your myGov account settings for sign-in options. If you do not have a backup method set up, you may permanently lose access to your account.

App timer and code

A new 6-digit code is generated by the app every 30 seconds. Please note that a countdown timer starts anew with each code generation. You will have 30 seconds to utilize the code before it expires.

When signing in to your myGov account, you will need to enter a new code each time. If you are using the same device, there is an option to copy and paste the code from the app for convenience.
